How diverse is the wildlife in India?
With a total of 80 national parks and 441 wildlife sanctuaries, India's diverse wildlife base is honoured to be the second largest in the world. The country boasts of over 500 species of mammals, more than 2,000 species of birds, over 500 species of reptiles and amphibians and around 30,000 species of insects. What invites tourists, visitors and animal-enthusiasts to the country is its largest number of tigers, the largest number of one-horned rhinoceroses, a huge percentage of elephant population and the near-extinct Asiatic lions. The wild safaris offered are sure to exhilarate you to the utmost degree, unique experience, taking into account the dense jungles, crackling campfires, exciting nights in tents and viewing of wildlife in chilling proximity. Which are the popular wildlife sanctuaries?
Surrounded by the Vindhya and the Aravali hill ranges, The Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan is known for the Royal Bengla Tiger. It came under the scheme of the Project Tiger in the year 1972. The Sariska Tiger Reserve is famous for its tiTiger Wildlife Sanctuariesgers and a large population of Rhesus monkeys. The Desert National Park is an excellent example of ecosystem of the Thar desert. The park has an abundant number of reptiles like monitor lizard, saw sealed viper, Sind Krait, Russel's viper and Sandfish. Located on the border between the states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the Keoladeo Ghana National Park is one of the best water-bird preserves in the world. The Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh is known far and wide for the density of its big cat population. The Kaziranga National Park in Assam is one of the few places in India where the Indian one-horned rhino can be seen in its natural habitat. Established in the year 1936, the Corbett National Park in Uttaranchal is India's first national park and first sanctuary to come under the Project Tiger. It is famous for its wild population of tigers, leopards, elephants and large cats. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala is famous for Indian elephants, frolicking by the Periyar lake. The Asiatic Lion can be viewed at the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in the state of Gujarat.

Ranthambore National ParkThe Ranthambore National Park is located in the state of Rajasthan in northwestern India. The capital city of Jaipur is located at a distance of 145 km from the park.


Sariska Tiger ReserveThe Sariska Tiger Reserve is located in the Alwar district of the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan. The park lies at a distance of 107 km from Jaipur, the capital of the state.


Desert National ParkThe Desert National Park is located at a distance of 40 km from Jaisalmer in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan. Covering an area of 3100 sq km, the park excellently preserves the ecosystem of the desert within its confines.


Keoladeo Ghana National ParkThe Keoladeo Ghana National Park is located at a distance of just 2 km from Bharatpur on the border between the states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradsh. It was given the status of a bird sanctuary in 1956.


Bandhavgarh National ParkThe Bandhavgarh National Park is located in the Sahdol district in the central Indian street of Madhya Pradesh. Surrounded by the Vindhyachal Hill ranges, the park came into existence the Maharaja of Rewa handed over the area to the Government.


Kaziranga National ParkThe Kaziranga National Park is located in the northeastern state of Assam in India. Covering an area of around 430 sq km, the park lies on the banks of the Brahmaputra river.


Bharatpur Wildlife SanctuaryThe Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 2 km from Bharatpur. It lies on the border between the states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradsh.


Corbett National ParkThe Corbett National Park is located in the state of Uttaranchal in the northern part of India. It lies in the foothills of the Himalayas, attracting countless number of tourists, travellers and nature enthusiasts.


Periyar Wildlife SanctuaryThe Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the state of Kerala in southern India. It lies on the banks of the Periyar Lake, with its nearest town being Kumily, located at a distance of 4 km from here.


Gir Wildlife SanctuaryThe Gir Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Junagadh district of Gujarat in western India. The national covers a total area of 1150 sq km, with 300 sq km forming the core area of the sanctuary.
