Where is the Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary?
The Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 2 km from
Bharatpur. It lies on the border between the states of Rajasthan and Uttar
Pradsh. The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is counted among the best water bird
reserves in the world.

The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is one of the best water-bird preserves in the
world. It is popular for the Siberian cranes. It is also home to a very rich
variety of native birds.
How will you gain access?

Bharatpur is well-connected to the cities of Delhi (176 km ) and Agra (50
km). There are regular bus services from Delhi, Agra and the other cities of
the country. Taxies or other private vehicles can also be hired. These
vehicles are allowed in the park.
What are the entry charges?
The entry charge for Indians is Rs 25, while for the foreigners it is Rs
200 each. Extra charges are to be paid for taking the cameras and other
photographic equipment along.
What is the best time?
The Bharatpur Bird sanctuary is open throughout the year. However, the best
time to visit the bird sanctuary during the winters, between the months of
October and February. Winter is also the time for arrival of migratory
birds.
What constitutes the flora, fauna and avifauna?
The park takes pride in its dense vegetation. Kadam (Mitragyna parvifolia),
Babul (Acacia nilotica) and Jamun (Syzygium cuminii) dominate the forests at
Bharatpur. Aquatic vegetation consists of lilies, lotus, duckweeds and water
fern.
The Bird sanctuary is home to a very rich bird-life. These include
cormorants, egrets, pelicans, spoonbills, flamingos, the pink-tinted stork,
numerous species of vultures, kingfishers, ibises, cranes, ducks and geese.
There are 350 bird species to be watched including the migratory birds.
Among the migratory birds is the highly dangered species of the Siberian
Crane which comes to nest here in winters.
The animal inmates of the park include deer, jackals, black buck, fishing
cats, otters, blue bulls etc.
