What
does the Deccan Odyssey signify?
A joint venture of the Union Ministry of Railways and the State Government
of Maharashtra, the Deccan Odyssey tries to recreate the eras of the
Peshwas, medieval-period feudal lords of the western India. The week-long
sojourn onboard this luxury train takes one across the
beaches,
sea forts and fantastic cave frescoes in the Central India.
How many coaches does it have?
There are a total of 21 coaches, of which only 13 are meant for passengers.
11 of these have 4 twin-bedded chambers. The remaining two, the
Presendential Suite have two twin-bedded coupe.
What are the services and facilities offered?
The train offers facilities like hot/cold running water, channel music,
intercom, CD/MP3 player, lounge, restaurant, bar, conference/business
centre, TV, Ayurvedic massage, gymnasium, beauty parlour, money exchange
facility, smoking and non-smoking suite cars, library etc.
The Deccan Odyssey Maharahja train provides 4 luxury suite cabins, 24
twin-bedded deluxe cabins, 14 triple-bedded cabins, 1 cabin for physically
challenged. Each passenger saloon is provided with 4 cabins and common
lounge area with DVD player. Each passenger cabin has private attached
bathroom, 4 channel music facility, electronic safe and small cupboard,
individual cabin temperature control panel and direct dialing facility.
The public area includes one bar lounge, 2 dining cars with onboard
kitchen, mini gym with spa saloon and conference saloon car with mini
business centre.
The train is pulled by a modern diesel-engine. On either end of the train
are two power generator cars. There are three staff cars for the onboard
staff.
Where does it depart from?
The Deccan Odyssey departs from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Mumbai)on
Wednesday at 16-40 hrs. Dinner is served on board.
