Where is Lucknow?
Lucknow (497 km from Delhi) is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh in
northern India. The city is situated in the upper Gangetic plains of India
and stands on the banks of river Gomti.

Amausi Airport (14 km from the city centre) operates flights linking
Luchnow to Delhi (497 km), Mumbai (1365 km), Patna (535 km), Ranchi (709 km)
and Varanasi(300 km). Charbagh Railway Station is at a distance of 3 km from
the city centre. The city is serviced by the Northern and the Northeastern
Railway networks. The city is well linked by road as well. Buses can be
caught from the UPSRTC Bus Stand, Charbagh and the UPSRTC Bus Stand, Qaisar
Bagh.
What does the climate say?
Summers in Lucknow are hot, with temperature rising up to 45 degrees
centigrade. During the winter months temperature drops down to a minimum of
11.1 degrees centigrade. July to September is the time of the monsoons. The
annual rainfall of the city records 44 cm.

» Bada Imambara
Bada Imambara was built by the fourth Nawab, Asaf-ud-Daula in 1784. It is
the city's most popular monument. An Imambara is a place where the Muslims
begin celebrations for the festival of Muharram. The main hall of the
Imambara measures 50 m in length and 15 m in height. The ceiling is devoid
of pillars. Adjacent to the main hall is the Bhool Bhulaiya. Towards the
left of the building lies the Baoli (step well) with tunnels running to the
river Gomti.
» Chhota Imambara
The Chhota Imambara is also known as the palace of lights.
It is so called because of the chandeliers that come to life during
the festival of Muharram. The Imambara with its Golden dome, silver throne
and gold-edged mirrors make it a worth-visiting place. Near the Imambara
lies the Victoria Park housing tombs of the British.

Jami Masjid
The Jami Masjid is yet another attraction in the city of Lucknow. With its
two exquisite minarets and three domes, the mosque is definitely a
not-to-be-missed sight.
» Qaiser Bagh Palace
The Qaisar Bagh Palace was built by the last Nawab Wajid Ali Shah in 1837.
It was the only contribution of Wajid Ali Shah to the city of Lucknow. He
was a poet, singer and a great patron of art. Pursuit of personal pleasures
gave little time to Nawab Wajid Ali Shah to look into the administrative
system of the city.
» Roomi Darwaza
Roomi Darwaza or the Turkish Gate lies towards the west of the Bara
Imambara. It was built by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula between 1784 and 1786. The
gateway soars up to a height of 60 feet. A massive lantern placed atop the
Roomi Darwaza would light up the pathway during the time of the Nawabs.

Lucknawi Chikan work is appreciated all over the world for its cool feel
and rich embroidery patterns. The city is a fantastic place to shop as the
markets cater to the needs of all kinds of people. The chief shopping areas
of the city are Hazaratganj (5 km from Charbagh), Janpath and Aminabad (4 km
from Charbagh). Garments like Kurta, Pyjama and Sarees are also very popular
and are exported to foreign countries from Lucknow.
