Where is Delhi?
The city of Delhi is located in North India. It lies on the banks of the
river Yamuna and is surrounded by the state of Haryana on the north, west
and south and by the state of Uttar Pradesh on the east.
What is the city famous for?
The city (New Delhi) is famous for being the capital of India and for
abounding in gigantic forts, exquisite mosques and splendid monuments of the
Mughal era.
How will you gain access?
The Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Palam Airport (Domestic)
provide a fabulous connectivity to Delhi. There are three railway stations
namely New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat
Nizamuddin Railway Station. Needless to say, Delhi has an excellent
road-network. The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is located at Kashmiri
Gate, Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar.
What does the climate say?
Delhi faces extremes of temperature. During the summers (April-July), the
temperature touches a maximum of 46 degrees centigrade and in winters
(December-January), the temperature drops down to a minimum of 5 degrees.
Mid-July to September is the time of the monsoons.

» Red Fort
The gigantic structure of the Red Fort was erected by the Mughal emperor
Shahjahan in the 17th century. The huge fort houses the Naqqar Khana (Drum
room), Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), Diwan-e-Khaas (Hall of Private
Audience), Rang Mahal (Palace of Colours), Khaas Mahal (Emperor's Palace)
and Hammam (Bathing Area). In the evenings from 08-00 hours to 09-00 hours
(summers) and from 07-00 hours to 08-00 hours (winters) is held the Light
and Sound show daily.
» Purana Quila
The Purana Quila or the Old Fort is the inner citadel of the city Dinpanah,
the foundation of which was laid by Mughal emperor Humayun in 1538.
There are three entrances to the fort namely Humayun Darwaza, Talaqi Darwaza
and Bara Darwaza. The fort is open from 06-00 hours to 18-00 hours.
» Qutub Minar
Built by Qutubuddin Aibak in 1192, the Qutub Minar is the highest stone
tower in India. The tower was built to celebrate Mohammad Ghouri's victory
over the Rajputs. The Minar is a 5-storey structure, housing the Iron
Pillar, the mosque Quwwat-ul-Islam and the Alai Darwaza. It lies near
Mehrauli on the Delhi-Guragon Road. It can be visited from 06-00 hours to
18-00 hours.
» India Gate
Designed by Lutyens, the India Gate was built in 1931 as a tribute to the
90,000 Indian soldiers who died in the World War I and the Afghan War. In
memory of the unknown soldiers who died, an eternal flame is lit here. The
arch stands at the end of Rajpath.

and Chandni Chowk are the chief market places of the city. Dariba (silver
market), Khari Baoli (spice market) and Kinari Bazar (trimmings and tinsel
market ) are the other popular markets - each having a charm of its own.
