Where is Calangute?
The four-mile-long Calangute beach is located in the state of Goa in India.
The beach is nine miles north of Panaji, the Goan capital. The beach was a
hippie hangout during the 60's and 70's. Today the hippies have turned into
yuppies.
How will you gain access?
The closest airport is at Dabolim which is 29 km away from the Goan capital
of Panaji. Karmali, 11 km from Panaji, is the closest railway station.
Panaji is just half an hour's drive from Calangute. There are regular buses
available from the capital to the key destinations of the state. One can
easily find deluxe, semi-deluxe and ordinary modes of transportation.

» Kerkar Art Complex
The Kerkar Art Complex is a major attraction at Calangute. The complex
exhibits various works of arts and crafts from the local Goans. On Thursadys
and Fridays, Indian classical music can be enjoyed at the complex.
» Church of St. Alex
The beauty and architectural beauty of the St. Alex church draws a good
number of visitors. The two exquisite towers, the magnificent dome and the
ornate altars are truly worth watching. The fourth centenary of the church
was celebrated in the year 1996.
» Saturday Bazaar
The Saturday Bazaar near the post office is no less attraction. One can buy
fish, meat and grocery with good bargaining options. There are other items
like textiles and pottery.
» Tibetan Market
Never forget to visit the Tibetan Market where you can find a number
of interesting and exquisite items. The market attracts a number of visitors
and tourists from far and near.
» Crocodile and Dolphin Tours
Take the crocodile and dolphin tours to spot the sportive dolphins and
voracious crocodiles. Crocodiles can be seen in the swamps and the mangroves
of the area while dolphins can be spotted at the mouth of the Mandovi river.
What are the beach sports in store?
The beach sports offered at Calngute are really commendable. There is a lot
to keep the adventurers busy till sunset. There are activities like
parasailing, water skiing and wind surfing. The adventures start in the
afternoon and continue till sunset. Though swimming is considered safe,
taking lifeguards along is advisable.
Which are the nearby hotels?
There are plenty of hotels and small-budget guest houses to take care of
your accommodation at Calangute. Hotel Pousada Tauma (Porba Vaddo) is a
5-star at Calangute. Among the three star group of hotels are names like
Hotel Goan Heritage (Gauro Vaddo) and Hotel Paradise Village Beach Resort
(Tivai Vaddo). Villa Bomfim is a popular guest house at the Baga Road.
What is the best time?
The steady climate of Goa makes it possible for the tourists to come here
any time of the year. November to February is the peak season to pay a visit
to the Calangute beach. However, to speak the truth there is no bad time to
visit the beach.
